What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the treatment methods available in the Traditional Chinese Medicine. It involves an insertion of a very fine needle into specific acupoint along what are considered to be lines of energy (meridians).

These acupoint was chosen based on the patient’s disease and body constitution. In Chinese Medicine, disease occurs when there is an imbalance of Qi in the body such as blockage of Qi or deficiency of Qi. Qi has a pathway called as meridian. This meridian/pathway spread throughout our body, as well as connecting to all organ and tissue to each other. When the meridian surfaced into superficial / skin, it called as acupoint. Acupuncture stimulation will help to unblock the blockage or nourish the body according to the technique used by acupuncturist.

Modern scientific findings found that acupuncture needle can stimulate chemical reaction in the brain and spinal cord, hence produces related chemical reaction and hormones that helps with body regulations/homeostasis and reduces pain. Other than that, it also can speed up healing process, as well as regulate emotion.
